Acid reflux or chronic heartburn can be more than an inconvenience.  Heartburn, acid reflux (also referred to as gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD) and Barrett’s esophagus are digestive disorders that if left untreated can progress to more serious conditions.  Barrett’s esophagus patients have a 5% chance of the disease progressing to esophageal cancer over a 10-year span.  Dr. Ashish Shah, gastroenterologist, will discuss the risks and treatment options for these conditions on Tuesday, Feb. 23.  The free Healing Heartburn & Barrett’s Esophagus program will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox.  Register to attend at www.silvercross.org or call 1-888-660-HEAL (4325).
