Acid reflux or chronic heartburn can be more than an inconvenience.  Heartburn, acid reflux (also referred to as gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD), and Barrett’s esophagus are digestive disorders that if left untreated can progress to more serious conditions.  Barrett’s esophagus patients have a 5% chance of the disease progressing to esophageal cancer over a 10-year span.  Dr. Kamran Ayub, Medical Director of the Advanced Endoscopy Center at Silver Cross Hospital, will discuss the risks and treatment options for these conditions on Tuesday, April 14.  The free Burning Your Heartburn & Preventing Esophageal Cancer program will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox.  Register to attend at www.silvercross.org or call 1-888-660-HEAL (4325).
